Country Music Star Collin Raye Steps Out of the Audience

(Pleasant Grove, UT) — It’s not often that when you need a star, one actually shows up. It happened on Saturday night at Showtime Utah, the musical variety theater in Pleasant Grove. Theater owner Joan Peterson says that the leader of her band had emergency surgery only two hours before show time. Scott Shumway heads Mama’s Boys, the Western band which entertains every week for the Old West Dinner Adventure. The band is made up of Scott and his five sons, and with their father in surgery, the five brothers were concerned about performing without their dad. In the best showbiz tradition, however, the show did go on, and the Shumway brothers told the audience what had happened.
To their complete astonishment, multiple platinum-selling country music star Collin Raye was in the audience and volunteered to help them out. He had made a reservation under an assumed name and was just there to see the show with his daughter and granddaughter. Instead, he chowed down his chuck wagon dinner, got onstage, and gave the stunned crowd a show to remember. Scott Shumway came through his surgery just fine but was disappointed that he didn’t get to see his famous replacement. Collin Raye has had four million-selling CDs and four songs at number one in the Billboard country charts.
